This GUIANAN or RED-FACED BLACK SPIDER MONKEY (Ateles paniscus paniscus) was part of a small troop I came across on my return from a Cock-of-the-Rock lek. Spider monkeys are usually quite shy animals and scamper away on the slightest disturbance but this troop were quite inquisitive and came down from the higher branches. Various missiles were eventually launched at me - including a dead branch that very nearly ended my short photography career! Photographed in Wowetta, Guyana.
