Gurney's Pitta (Pitta gurneyi) Khao Nor Chuchi Wildlife Reserve, Southern Thailand. The Gurney's Pitta is now very close to extinction in Thailand as suitable habitat is sparse and declining. It was thought that this was the only country where the Gurney's Pitta could be found, however recent surveys in Burma have shown that this species is relatively common with an estimated 5000-8000 pairs. Unfortunately with palm oil plantations expanding it is quite possible that any suitable habitat is destroyed in the next 10 years.
